The First World War was one of the first major conflicts where photography and film were highly significant, due among other things to smaller and improved cameras. The nations involved also began to realize the value of photography and film for propaganda purposes. GameplayVerdun is a game where you play as a generic infantryman within a four-man squad, with multiple squads being present during the main game mode, Front lines. You get to choose from a set of historically accurate squads and there are four roles available within each squad.
The combat is on par with similar games of this genre, reloading animations are quite nice to watch. Bullet drop is accurate and easy to get used to, and there exist a pretty decent and balanced damage calculation. The leader of your squad has the ability to call in support in the form of artillery, gas, and recon planes which could really come in handy when you cornered into a tough situation. The game offers five distinct game modes with many added features such as quite convincing world war 1 weaponry, authentic uniforms, quite realistic gore, and maps based on the real battlefields of France and Belgium. The dynamic Front lines game mode features 64 players (which I assume is inspired by battlefields conquest game mode), taking turns to go over the top and attempt to capture the opposing teams trench line. The game play is centered around fighting for dominance over multiple capture points surrounded by linear set of trenches through which you charge in order to hold your ground or charge the enemy. There are several maps to play on, each being highly detailed and different enough from each other to not feel boring and repetitive. There are upto 64 players in a lobby (32 vs 32), this game can feel absolutely massive and equally terrifying as you watch those around you get obliterated by machine gun and mortar being fired upon you, Suffocated by gas or are being Blown away by artillery shells.
When there are open player slots, a bot will serve in their stead in order to maintain the number of players on both sides. The bots are competent enough in supportive roles, being good shots but not the most smart nor the best at traversing the terrain. Verdun also features the game modes such as Squad defense, Attrition and Rifles Death match. Squad Defense is a survival mode where you play against multiple waves of bots, while Attrition and Rifles Death match are additional competitive game modes. UpdateVerdun has received a number of improvements this March. Among these are floating weapon shadows, setting issues and animation related trickery. We’ve also increased the AFK (=time to get yourself some drinks and snacks) in private and public matches, ensured certain matchups are more historically accurate in Attrition mode, added a potential fix for game crashes occurring after sound outage and stuttering and that’s not all! For a complete overview of the fixes and improvements, be sure to take a look at our changelog here.Tannenberg Wolf Truce event! The Eastern Front needs capable soldiers!

Happy President's Day to our US fans!Of course, this is a holiday which has changed quite a bit since WW1. Originally it was known only as Washington's Birthday, and fell on February the 22nd since that was, well, his birthday. It wasn't until the thrillingly named Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968 that the holiday was officially set to be the third Monday in February. This change might make things more orderly, but it does also mean that (at least since 1971) the holiday is effectively never actually on Washington's birthday anymore. We'll come close in 2022, when it'll be on the 21st!Here's a couple of cartoons from February 22nd in 1918, taken from the Stars & Stripes en.wikipedia.org, the American military newspaper. There's no mention of the holiday in the paper.
